Descriptive names

Dear Peggy,

I want a name for my company that describes the service we offer, but all of the variations seem to be taken by my competitors. Any suggestions?

Signed,
Keep It Real

Dear Keep It Real,

Descriptive names are useful some of the time, but most of the time they make you blend in with the competition. You need to find a name that’s really different so your company can stand out.

If you pick a name that makes you one of the trees in the forest, then you will spend the rest of your marketing budget trying to stand out. This is not a good idea. It’s better to start off with a strong name so you’re fighting the competition, not yourself.

Sincerely,
Peggy
